RIBA 175

Main gallery
1 - 24 December 2009

2009 marks the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). RIBA 175 celebrates this milestone, and the remarkable buildings which have resulted from architectural competitions, with an exhibition of 175 RIBA competition-winning projects.

The RIBA Competitions Office, established in Leeds over 25 years ago, holds a photographic archive of past projects, providing a rich visual history from which images for the exhibition have been drawn.

RIBA Competitions encourage excellence in design, with the Institute collaborating with a wide range of clients – both public and private. The result is a variety of landmark projects and iconic structures ranging from major public projects such as The Sage in Gateshead and Wembley Stadium, to smaller structures such as the De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill on Sea and the Swivelling Wind Shelter in Blackpool.

RIBA 175 celebrates first-class design in the UK, and recognises the success of the competition process – a fitting sign-off to a year of anniversary celebrations for the Institute.

This exhibition is supported by: RIBA, Construction Industry Council South West, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Heath Avery Architects and LHC Architecture.

Hello Mary
No, unfortunately the exhibition doesn't feature Peter Ware. We have found an article about his life online though:
