HOUSEY HOUSEY CHILDREN'S WORKSHOP
On Saturday 8th January the Architecture Centre ran an afternoon
children’s workshop inspired by the models from the Housey
Housey exhibition. Twenty one children, aged from 4 to 13, worked
in industrious partnership with their parents to create a model
house for their favourite small toy. Using an old shoe box and
lots of recycled materials from the Bristol Scrapstore, the children
created some detailed and fascinating models.
Education Officer Amy Harrison said:
’The models from the Housey Housey exhibition are unusual
and fascinating and we felt they were the perfect inspiration
for children to design their own unusual dolls house designs.
The workshop provided an opportunity for the children to think
about design, scale and the requirements of the client: in this
case their favourite toy! Although many children received some
fabulous and elaborate gifts this Christmas, we mustn’t
underestimate the simple joy that can be derived from an old shoe
box and a bit of imagination! We encouraged the children to bring
along their left over Christmas packaging, so they could actively
recycle in a creative way. The results were brilliant, such a
diverse range of innovative and amusing designs!’
