DESIGNS SUMMER SCHOOL
During the August summer holidays 2006, thirty Year 5 and 6 pupils
from four primary schools in the Knowle area of Bristol took part
in the second annual Grand Designs Challenge summer school.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
To celebrate the Big Draw 2006 and the Centre’s 10th anniversary,
the education team worked with a local Pinhole camera photography
expert to deliver an exciting workshop exploring the built environment
of the Bristol Harbourside.

FOR THOUGHT
During 2006 the Architecture Centre worked with Creative Partnerships
Forest of Dean to deliver a series of workshops with Tutshill
Primary School, Chepstow linking their new building work with
the science curriculum.

BRISTOL
BLITZED
This exciting one day workshop for Year 5 pupils from Hillcrest
Primary School took place at Castle Park Bristol Industrial Museum,
to mark the launch of a new resource on WW2 buildings: Bristol
Blitzed.

NATIONAL
CONSTRUCTION WEEK 2005
This one day event for GCSE students was delivered in partnership
with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) as part of
National Construction Week.

THE BIG DRAWING – ARCHITECTURE WEEK 2005
Every year as part of national Architecture Week, the Architecture
Centre, Bristol delivers a range of fun and engaging education
and community events. From gingerbread house building to designing
homes for local birdlife, the events are ‘hands-on’
and encourage families to explore the built environment collaboratively.

ORPHANAGE
SCHOOL IN NEPAL
During April, our education officer, Amy Harrison participated
in an Aidcamps International project to build a school for a rural
orphanage in Southern Nepal.

THE
BIG DRAW - MEDIEVAL MASTERPIECES
As part of the national ‘Big Draw’ celebrations,
the Architecture Centre, Bristol and The Churches Conservation
Trust opened up a local medieval church to provide artistic inspiration
to local primary school pupils.

SUMMER SCHOOL 2005
In the first week of the summer holidays, thirty Year 5 and 6
pupils from five primary schools in the Knowle area, took part
in an exciting and enjoyable University of the First Age summer
school, organised by the Architecture Centre, Bristol and the
Archimedia Project at Knowle West Media Centre.

This project was undertaken with Year 5/6 pupils from Patchway
C of E Primary School and Clutton Primary during summer term 2005.
The theme for this project was the concept of ‘home’.

360°
AWARDS - WINNERS
The 360° Awards were open to secondary school teachers of
any subject in the south west who focus on architecture and/or
the built environment in some way in their delivery of the curriculum.

how redevelopments can be used to deliver curriculum opportunities.

The Urban Design Trail is a walking tour of Bristol City Centre,
which lasts about two hours.

Centre, local Architects and Structural Engineers and Primary
Schools.
