Ken Yeang - Ecomimesis: Buildings, biodiversity and bioclimatic design
Talk: 23 May 2009
Architect Ken Yeang is internationally renowned for his ‘green skyscrapers’, and over the past three decades has pioneered and developed the passive low-energy design of high-rise buildings using a process known as bioclimatic design.
To mark Darwin Centenary Year Yeang looks at the relationship between buildings and the natural environment, and how copying nature’s models might enhance our human-made ecosystems’ abilities to sustain life in the biosphere. Yeang’s own work embodies this ‘eco-mimesis’ approach – designing buildings that imitate the structure, processes and properties of ecosystems. Yeang’s books include Eco Skyscrapers and Eco-design: A Manual for Ecological Design.
The Architecture Centre is pleased to be presenting this talk as part of the 2009 Bristol Festival of Ideas.
Ecomimesis is part of Spring Green 2009, The Architecture Centre’s annual programme of exhibitions and events that celebrate and showcase sustainable innovation in the built environment.
