BRISTOL
DOORS OPEN DAY 2004
Saturday 11th September 2004
10.00 – 16.00
Doors Open Day is your chance to see inside some of Bristol's
most fascinating and historically important buildings, many of
which are not normally open to the general public.
There is the usual eclectic mix - with over 60 venues ranging
from the third century to the twenty first; from a Georgian mansion
to a humble dock worker's cottage; from a Victorian graveyard
to a modern sewage plant; from 100 feet up to two floors down!
In particular architects, and others, will be delighted to learn
that the 1930s Concrete House is back after several years absence;
the Colston Hall, besides giving tours behind the scenes, is also
mounting a display of the current Levitt Bernstein plans for Bristol's
new Concert Hall; and Grimshaw's eye-catching RAC HQ is again
offering tours.
And as well as other 20th Century examples, there is a wealth
of some of Bristol's finest Edwardian, Victorian, Georgian and
earlier architecture to choose from.
To find out more pick up a brochure from the Architecture Centre,
the Tourist Information Centre, your local library and nearer
the day from the venues themselves; or go to the City Council
