MODERNISM:
V&A EXHIBITION
Visit: Sunday 16 July, 8.15am
This major V&A exhibition will be the first in-depth look
at the movement which revolutionised the world around us and the
way we live. On show will be sculpture, painting, photography,
furniture, fashion, prints and architecture. Key modernist figures
who will be featured include artists Piet Mondrian and Fernand
Leger, architects Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius,
furniture designers Marcel Breuer and Alvar Aalto, fashion designer
Sonia Delaunay and photographer Man Ray.
Looking at the years from 1914 to 1939, the exhibition will show
how Modernist ideas evolved into a mass movement with widespread
influence in peoples’ lives and how Modernism found its
distinctive style – abstract, linear, geometric –
which still dominates design today.
This is a joint visit with Bristol Magpies, and we are delighted
that Architectural Historian Andy Foyle will be accompanying us
and giving a short talk on the coach. In 2004 Andy wrote the Pevsner
City Guide to Bristol and he is now revising the Buildings of
England for North Somerset and Bristol due to be published in
about 2008.
To book, download the booking
form (as a Word document) and return to Rosemary Silvester,
the event organiser. No bookings will be taken by the Architecture
Centre.
