WILLIAM
KENT: ARCHITECT, DESIGNER, OPPORTUNIST
Talk: Tuesday 9 May, 18.00, £6/4.50
This talk from author Timothy Mowl celebrates the launch of
this first full biography of William Kent, arguably England's
first great designer. Mowl describes Kent as a con man who became
one of the artistic geniuses of his age; a high camp Yorkshire
bachelor who with his Arcadian image of the ‘English Garden’
made ‘England’s only original contribution to European
culture’.
Signed copies of the biography will be on sale.
Timothy Mowl is Reader in Architectural and Garden History at
the University of Bristol. He is currently writing a historic
garden series of the English counties.
