Bristol Street Trees

Main gallery
16 June - 28 June 2009

Following two major Government-funded research projects into the status of our urban trees, a green paper entitled No Trees, No Future was launched in November 2008. The aim is to highlight the importance of trees in towns and to raise awareness about keeping what we have and planting many more. Bristol Street Trees was set up in 2006 to look more closely at local issues, highlight the loss of big trees and potential changes to Bristol’s streetscape, and work with Bristol City Council on their developing street trees strategy.

In this photographic exhibition Bristol Street Trees argues the case for retaining existing trees and planting new ones. Illustrating the stumps left behind when trees are felled, the images highlight the damage done to our existing urban green infrastructure, and the benefits of developing a long-term strategy to protect and increase our street trees.
