Bristol's Lost Quarter

Main gallery
19 January - 28 February 2010

Final year students from the Masters course in Architecture at the University of the West of England studied the area between St. Nicholas Market and Old Market. Their work includes proposals to develop an urban and landscape strategy that reshapes Castle Park while maintaining its current level of green space; restoration of this quarter of Bristol’s blitzed medieval core; provision of new settings for St. Peter’s and Pip ‘n’ Jay churches; re-connection of the two markets. Proposed actions include decking over the ring road, prioritising pedestrian traffic, and reusing existing buildings such as the Galleries car park.

This exhibition, based on these proposals, acts as both critique and stimulus, contributing to the discussions around this hotly-contested part of Bristol.
