Bristol and Bath have the second highest population of architects in the country, with a huge range of practices working to wide and varied philosophies. The region’s practices range from the very small to the biggest international organisations; many are award-winning, and all contribute to the local environment.
In Practice explores how Bristol and Bath architects approach architecture and the ethos of their practice. Through models, drawings, photos, films, ideas, buildings or even their own offices, local architects have been invited to provide an insight into the way they work, demystifying the way in which this ancient profession is practised in modern times.
2009 is the 175th anniversary of The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the UK body for architecture and the architectural profession responsible for over 28,000 chartered architects in this country. In Practice marks the anniversary by celebrating the quality and variety of architectural work specific to this region.
The exhibition also provides the Architecture Centre with an opportunity to look at ways of bringing the profession and the public together, continuing our work in providing information about a practical art which influences all our daily lives, involving everyone in the processes that mould the built environment.
