Planting Places: Greenspace award winners
Main gallery
3 March - 5 April 2009
The Planting Places awards celebrate top green spaces in the South West, and recognise the positive role they play in supporting sustainable communities. As well as the overall award, ‘best practice’ awards highlight excellent examples in Engaging the Community, Supporting Biodiversity, Managing Flood Risk, Promoting Health & Well Being and Responding to Climate Change.
Planting Places champions the sort of green spaces which enable communities to be healthy, productive and socially-just, and to live within environmental limits.
Sustainable communities require green spaces that promote well-being, inclusion, cohesion and self-sufficiency and support resilience to climate change. Planting Places is an initiative of Sustainability South West (www.sustainabilitysouthwest.org. uk), the region’s independent champion for sustainable development. The Architecture Centre supports the Greenspace awards, along with Arup, Natural England, the Environment Agency and NHS South West.
Spring Green is The Architecture Centre’s annual programme of exhibitions and events that celebrate and showcase sustainable innovation in the built environment.
