Studio in the Woods
Studio in the Woods
Main gallery: 7 July to 1 August
Studio in the Woods, founded by Piers Taylor of Mitchell Taylor Workshop, is a unique architectural workshop in which students learn and test ideas through designing and building occupiable structures at 1:1 scale.
Over the course of a long weekend each summer, the students use recently felled trees that are milled into required sections as a form of ‘constructed analysis’ of a place.
Now in its fifth year, Studio in the Woods has developed a cult following with students seeking ways to work with award-winning architects and teachers from the University of Cambridge and the Architectural Association, such as Peter Clegg, Ted Cullinan, Meredith Bowles, Charley Brentnall, Kate Darby and Gianni Botsford.
There is a frenetic and intense energy generated by the process of physical making in a short timescale, and a sublime beauty to the projects. This exhibition presents work from the last four years and also includes an exciting wooden structure. It began life as a neat stack of pre-cut timber, and is constantly evolving and being re-worked by groups of architects and students over the course of the exhibition. You can view its progress on our blip.tv site here.
This exhibition is kindly supported by Carpenter Oak & Woodland and Impress Reprographics, Bath.
We are currently looking for volunteers who are interested in invigilating during this exhibition to get in touch. Please contact info@architecturecentre.co.uk to register your interest.
