Urban Documents
Main gallery
15 July - 15 September 2006
Urban Documents explores the way buildings have evolved and changed over time. The subjects within the photographs are predominately from Weston-super-Mare, but also from Bristol and beyond. These locations offer a diverse range of architecture that is old enough to have had different occupants over the decades.
Stephen Monger is a photographer who uses cardboard models of the built environment to make his work. The models are photographed using lighting and a large format camera to produce a final photograph in which the models appear superficially realistic, but which subtly manipulates the result to emphasise particular detail.
Stephen Monger is an artist and photographer based in Somerset. He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Urban Documents is funded by Arts Council England, the national development agency for the arts, through its Grants for the arts programme.
