NATURAL REVIVAL

Low-impact Building Materials Today

Exhibition: 8 October - 18 November, 2007

Growing environmental concern across the UK has led to an increased interest in the ecological impact of the materials used in construction projects. Conventional building materials such as bricks and concrete may offer durability and strength, but the high level of fossil fuel needed to produce them significantly impacts the environment.

Natural Revival focuses on construction materials that require minimal manufacturing processes. While some of these - such as straw and earth - have been used in building for centuries, we will focus on how they are being adapted and revisited in a modern context. Can they offer a solution in the pursuit to create buildings that reduce negative impacts on the environment?
