NATIONAL
MARITIME MUSEUM EXHIBITION
Exhibition: Tuesday 21 October – Sunday 30 November
Lecture:
Wednesday 19 November, 7pm (tickets £6/£4.50)
How do you go about designing a £28 million regeneration
project on the waterfront in Falmouth, with shops, offices, residential
accommodation, an event square, and the £19 million National
Maritime Museum Cornwall?
This exhibition follows the process taken by architects Long
& Kentish in 1996, whose design won the RIBA Competitive Interview
over 72 other original applications.
Collecting design development sketches and models from both the
architect’s and exhibition designer’s offices, the
exhibition describes how the two were able to develop parallel
designs, to communicate with each other and with the client.
Long & Kentish were determined to make this a building true
to the region, part of the waterfront and full of the smells and
sounds of the sea. The Museum officially opened in February 2003,
so go and smell for yourself!
