UNIVERSITY
OF BATH SPORTS TRAINING FACILITY
Exhibition: Tuesday 31 January - Sunday 5 March
“A world-class training environment” Tim Henman
David Morley Architects, established in 1987, has a design approach
that is contemporary without over-elaboration; buildings are economical
to construct, efficient to run and enjoyed by their users, whilst
focusing on sustainability at many levels.
The 21,500m2 University of Bath Sports Training Village, home
of the English Institute of Sport, is one of four regional centres
which provide training facilities for the development of world
class athletes. The sports facilities contain a multipurpose sports
hall, a tennis hall, an indoor sprint track, a dojo, an indoor
athletics hall, a fencing sale, hydrotherapy facilities, a fitness
suite, sports injuries clinic and human performance centre and
other auxiliary facilities.
A key focus for the building is the provision of holistic total
care facilities for elite athletes with a particular emphasis
on strength and conditioning, sports science and sports medicine. This
reflects the emerging trend for athletes from different sports
to share techniques and knowledge and provides a unifying purpose
to the Institute.
This exhibition explores the meticulously planned Sports Training
Village, which has received the accolade from the Director of Sports
at Bath,Ged Roddy: “It puts us at the top of the tree in
terms of university sports facilities. There isn't one in the country
that can compete.”
