URBAN
DOCUMENTS
Exhibition: Saturday 15 July - Sunday 15 September
Seminar: 12 September
Urban Documents explores the way buildings have evolved and changed
over time. The subjects within the photographs are predominately
from Weston-super-Mare, but also from Bristol and beyond. These
locations offer a diverse range of architecture that is old enough
to have had different occupants over the decades.
Stephen Monger is a photographer who uses cardboard models of
the built environment to make his work. The models are photographed
using lighting and a large format camera to produce a final photograph
in which the models appear superficially realistic, but which
subtly manipulates the result to emphasise particular detail.
Stephen Monger is an artist and photographer based in Somerset.
He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the University of the West
of England, Bristol.
Urban Documents is funded by Arts Council England, the national
development agency for the arts, through its Grants for the arts
programme.

We would like to thank Urban Splash for their interest and support.
Seminar: 12 September
Urban Documents invites us to look at images of buildings which
have been changed over time. Can contemporary residential design
give current and future owners and tenants a place which can truly
be their own? How does personalisation affect other residents?
Does a strong architectural language protect our overall environment
from the intrusion of personal taste, or is there a benefit in
allowing flexibility and an overlay of ownership over time?
For further details of this seminar which is aimed at a professional
audience please see the web site or look out for a mailing nearer
the time.
