SPRING
GREEN SEASON
January - April 2007
Environmental sustainability - which has been part of The Architecture
Centre’s core agenda for some years - is a key consideration
for the construction industry, architecture and engineering, as
well as being high on the political agenda. And with the introduction
of Energy Performance Certificates for all houses sold from 1
June 2007, and the UK government’s recently announced plans
to make all new homes ‘carbon neutral’ within a decade,
this is a subject of keen interest to householders, designers
and builders.
Spring Green is part of the Sustainable Urban
Living strand of the Architecture Centre’s Regional Programme,
funded by CABE
(Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) and
creating:excellence.
The Greenprint exhibition,
looking at recent sustainable housing design in the South West
and beyond, is timed to tie in with the launch of the CABE South
West Regional Housing Audit, and is complemented by an exhibition
on eco-renovation
and a series of talks and activities.
Spring Green, The Architecture Centre's first annual sustainability
season, has been a great success. With two outstanding exhibitions
and a busy series of talks, tours and events, the
Centre saw plenty of publicity as well as increased visitor numbers
because of this popular topic. The Architecture Centre will re-visit
sustainability on this scale next spring for another Spring
Green programme, and Sustainable Urban Living will continue to
be one of our main strands throughout 2007 and into 2008. Look
out for further activities later in the year.
